A lot of people don’t know or haven’t got the time to change the oil on their car so they take it to those quick oil change shops. Yet are most of these car oil change places on the up and up? In this article, I am going to concentrate on why it isn’t smart to go to these places and why you should find a regular mechanic instead.

You are probably aware that your car owners manual will give you a break down on what things need to be done after so many miles of driving. You could have scheduled servicing for things like air filter change or an oil change. But did you seriously review the car’s owner’s manual? I do know for certain that your motor oil does not even need to be changed every 3000 miles much like these quick oil change places will tell you. In fact when you look in your book you may find that you just have to change your oil every 6,000 or even 7,000 miles. So in essence, these quick oil change places are lying to you.

Also if you read through your owners manual you can see a schedule for changing your air filter. In my case, it is suggested that I change my car’s air filter every two years or if it’s all clogged up. In my circumstance, the air filter still looked pretty good after four years but I opted to change it anyway just in case. But, anytime I would head over to these quick oil change places, they’d tell me I would need a new air filter. Six months after I changed the air filter by myself, I took my car to one of these oil change places and they said my air filter needed to be changed. They alleged that the air filter was starting to discolor which could have meant that it would start clogging at anytime. However, I told them that I changed the filter just six months ago and their answer was that I would need to change it in another six months.

What irritated me was that they initially informed me that the filter had to be changed. But when I explained that the air filter was relatively new, they changed their answer to something else. It really shows how very, very lousy and dishonest these people who work at these oil change places are.

Another time, one of these outlets changed my transmission fluid. It all seems like they’ll tell you that your transmission fluid will need to be changed everytime you visit. This one time I told them to go ahead and get it done. Then, after I went back to have my oil changed several months later, they told me I seriously needed to have my transmission fluid changed. Needless to say, that is the last time I went to these bad places.

I will no longer go to these quick oil change places and instead have found the right mechanic to work on my car. Believe it or not, many of these folks who work at the quick oil change places have never had any education in fixing cars. Though a licensed mechanic has received the proper education.
